Salary Range:

$135,000 - $229,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are currently seeking a Manager, R&D Science and Engineering, to join the team! The selected candidate will provide leadership and guidance for the department’s work.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Guide the work of the department.

  • Create and sustain an inclusive work environment

  • Coordinate and manage members of the workforce including hiring, assessment and performance management, and professional development consistent with mission objectives of the organization.

  • Promote excellence by managing and coordinate specific work, overall program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements.

  • Maintain effective customer relationships with sponsors.

  • Ensure a balanced funding profile, as well as identifying new opportunities that demonstrate the department’s capabilities consistent with the vision of the Group and Center.

  • Work effectively across the management team using capabilities and opportunities to best address the dynamic risk space in which we operate

  • Engage in strategic plan development with management team to guide decision-making, and to position the department for long term success.

  • Counsel and assist employees and management on government legislation, U.S. Department of Energy contract compliance, and Sandia National Laboratories' policies or procedures to ensure compliance.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree Electrical Engineering, Computer science, nuclear engineering or other relevant STEM field, plus eight (8) or more years of directly related experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job

  • Experience in the following:

  • Lead a diverse set of projects and workers.

  • Develop, grow and manage customer funded projects/programs.

  • Work complex challenges from problem to solution space.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Minimum of two years of demonstrated leadership experience.

  • Experience working with a broad set of sponsors including the DOE/NNSA, DoS, and DTRA.

  • Knowledge and experience with Sandia’s Work Planning and Controls processes

  • Arms control and nonproliferation knowledge and experience from both the US and International perspective.

  • Experience negotiating program and requirements with both government and international partners.

  • Ability to travel both domestic and international

The Nuclear Verification Department (6831) is making the world a safer place by helping the US Government to reduce nuclear threats. We give policymakers technical options for verifying declared nuclear warheads and materials to enable effective arms control treaties and agreements. We research, develop, evaluate, and field new technologies that increase our government's capability to verify treaties and manage nuclear materials. Our diverse work includes technical development of radiation detectors, information barriers, sensors, tags, seals, information management and protection, and other nuclear security technologies, often with ultra-low-power requirements. Our programs are performed collaboratively with scientists and engineers in the Global Security & Cooperation Center (6800), across Sandia, with other national laboratories and sites, and internationally.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
