NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
Salary Range:
$118,500 - $201,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manager for the Radiation Protection group to lead a portion of its functions alongside other peer Managers. The Manager reports directly to the Senior Manager and will lead a department with approximately 20 direct reports comprising of professional and technologist staff who have discipline specialties in radiation protection, health physics, radiological instrumentation and nuclear engineering.
As a Radiation Protection Manager, you will:
Lead
Provide leadership direction by planning a strategic vision and prioritization of work that will help to significantly improve implementation of Radiation Protection (RP) policies and processes by line organizations conducting radiological work.
Maintain Steward and ownership of the Corporate Radiation Protection Program supporting all Sandia radiological operations.
Lead and coordinate development of RP policies, procedures, and technical basis documents to meet regulatory requirements.
Lead Customer Support Teams and specialized functional teams.
Influence
Demonstrate strategic and conceptual thinking skills and creativity in approach and adherence to behaviors that promote a culture that is innovative, connected, and impactful.
Promote excellence by managing and coordinating specific deliverables, overall program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements.
Reaffirm the vision, direction, goals, and objectives of the Radiation Protection group to fulfill mission requirements
Develop the next generation of SNL RP leadership while establishing resource plans, including the development of staff through a focus on recruitment, retention, staffing and training of new and existing resources.
Address values of diversity and inclusion, serving the nation, work and life balance, continuous improvement, learning from failure, and staff growth and development.
Ensure compliance with the various organizational needs such as dosimetry and personnel monitoring programs, radiological instrumentation maintenance and calibration, radiological sample analysis and management, and radiological training.

Recognized as an indisputable expert and leader in regulatory community including industry recognition and reputation. Has a demonstrated command for defining long term strategy.
Empower and assist employees and management on government legislation, U.S. Department of Energy contract compliance, and Sandia National Laboratories’ policies or procedures to ensure compliance.
Proven RP knowledge and experience to independently judge work quality, performance, and alignment of results with customer expectations.
Collaborate
Ensure that customer needs are satisfied by managing and coordinating specific deliverables, overall program and project plans, schedules, and staffing requirements.
Understand and champion the work of the organization while engaging to connect the work and expertise of the organization with potential beneficiaries, collaborators, and customers.
Engage with other organizations on mission needs to deliver all needs necessary to complete Sandia’s mission and strategic outcomes.
Promote effective professional relationships with other organizations and customers within the regulatory community.
Qualifications We Require:
Master’s degree in health physics or relevant discipline such a related science or engineering (e.g., nuclear engineering).
Current certification by the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) or actively pursuing certification.
Knowledge of the technical principles, theories, concepts, and techniques of health physics.
Eight years of professional-level experience in operational radiation protection.
Competent in federal, state, local, and industry radiation protection regulations.
Competent in interfacing with external regulatory body personnel.
Working knowledge of 10CFR835 and 10CFR830, or 10CFR20.
Ability to obtain and maintain US DOE Q-level security clearance.
Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to operate a government vehicle.
Qualifications We Desire:
Demonstrated organizational, supervisory, and leadership capabilities to direct and mentor RP personnel.
Competent in managing staff in a DOE environment.
Demonstrated ability to effectively respond to, and direct others in, emergency and abnormal situations. Willingness to participate in the SNL Human Reliability Program, if required by RP Department activities.
Demonstrated interpersonal relationship skills and the ability to interact effectively with RP and Line organization personnel, other Environment, Safety & Health (ES&H) organizations, senior SNL management, external entities, and NNSA/DOE or other governmental agency officials.
About Our Team:
The Radiation Protection Organization provides radiation protection support services to Sandia line organizations and is the steward of the Corporate Radiation Protection Program. Services provided include: translation of DOE directives and Federal rules into Sandia specific requirements and guidance; development of tools to assist in the identification and control of hazards associated with the use of radioactive materials and radiation-generating devices; providing trained and qualified personnel to support radiological activities and operations throughout the Laboratories; and workplace sampling and monitoring services to ensure effectiveness of radiological controls. The Organization works with the Corporate Radiation Protection Safety Committee to establish goals, measure performance, and perform assessments to collect data to support continuous improvement in the safe performance of radiological operations.
