If so, you could be the manager we are seeking to join Sandia’s dynamic Personnel Security / Foreign Interactions department. In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide essential leadership for clearance processing to allow access to classified information or matter or special nuclear material and only when such access will not endanger the common defense of security and is clearly consistent with the national interest. This includes the counsel and assistance to employees and management on government legislation, DOE contract compliance, and Sandia National Laboratories’ (SNL) policies and procedures. Manage exempt and non-exempt staff, budget, space, equipment, sensitive records, and members of the workforce within the department. Coordinate subordinate employee recruitment, selection, training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, recognition and disciplinary actions. Meet customer needs by managing and coordinating specific deliverables, overall program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements. Strategically balance the acquisition and development of staff resources, capabilities, and existing and future projects or programs.
On any given day, you may be called on to:

- Promote excellence by managing and coordinating specific deliverables, overall program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements.
- Ensure that customer needs are satisfied through the creation of trust-based relationships.
- Independently judge work quality, performance, and alignment of results with customer expectations.
- Apply principles and professional standards of auditing to analyze conditions and risks.
- Direct audits to determine the reliability and effectiveness of controls and risk mitigation efforts.
- Evaluate and recommend improvements to business practices, processes, and control procedures.
- Conduct peer reviews, studies, and self-assessments.
- Ensure that individuals are processed for, granted, and allowed to retain an access authorization only when their official duties require it.
- Perform all activities related to access authorization requests, reinvestigations, extensions, transfers, and terminations; reciprocal clearances; and background review requests.
- Maintain personnel security files, processes investigative results and authorization determinations, verifies personal identity, and issues personnel and visitor local badges.
- Manage reporting requirements for personnel who are enrolled in the DOE Human Reliability Program.
This position requires the ability to travel.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline plus 8 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
- Two or more years of demonstrated Leadership or Managerial experience.
- Master’s degree in security or related field.
- Management experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity and develop strategic direction in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute an action plan given multiple, conflicting requirements and constraints.
- Demonstrated awareness of and ability to work across Sandia's program and organizational structures.
The Security Integration and Assurance Department is responsible for Classification, Safeguards & Security (S&S) Assurance activities, and multiple corporate and center reports. Other activities include support for special projects and presentations for the Division 4000 office as well as working with the S&S Business Manager on all aspects of managing the S&S business, including the S&S program budget.

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
