NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
Salary Range:
$138,600 - $235,500
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

They are an innovator with the drive and consistent record of securing projects and innovating in the data analytics space to maintain and expand Sandia's position as a go-to source of technical expertise. More than being an innovator, you must be a multidisciplinary collaborator as this position leads within a network of 15 other departments working together on space mission-related data-related activities. This new department will work closely with the Data Analysis & Exploitation (6321) and Real Time Data Processing (6324) departments to lead our algorithm research and development efforts to produce actionable intelligence from large amounts of real time streaming, remote sensing data.

On any given day, you may be called on to:
Address current program needs and help to develop a future vision and plan for the capabilities of the organization in close collaboration with laboratory partners
Own and guide the department vision in researching and developing pioneering data analytic algorithms
Establish and maintain key laboratory and customer partnerships to research, develop, and engineer effective algorithmic and software solutions
Lead career development of staff, to include work assignments and assessment of performance, and perform hiring, retention, rewards and recognition for the department
Ensure that customer needs are satisfied by managing and coordinating specific work, overall program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements as needed
Engage in research and technology communities for identifying future opportunities, increasing visibility of the department’s core capabilities, and identifying, recruiting and developing the next generation of leaders in the field
Ensure consistent alignment to laboratory standards and guidelines related to safety, security and quality
The position requires occasional travel
Qualifications We Require:
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree plus a graduate degree (Master's or PhD) in a related field plus eight or more years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
A minimum of two years of demonstrated leadership experience
Other Requirements
- You can obtain and maintain a required US DOE issued Q clearance and SCI clearance, which may require passing a polygraph test
Qualifications We Desire:
Demonstrated leadership or management experience: for example, mentored and led an organization/team on goals and objectives; effectively led people, and guided multidisciplinary teams
Ability to handle ambiguity and develop strategic direction in a dynamic environment
Familiarity with data analytics, data fusion, Multi-INT, AI/ML
Familiarity with modern software development practices/tools. Proven experience in scientific/engineering software development, testing, and delivery
Experience providing integrated engineering solutions in support of high consequence national security missions, to include the inception, elaboration, construction, and deployment of advanced information systems
Experience in successfully interacting with and influencing a variety of collaborators, customers, industry partners, management and staff
Consistent record of writing successful technical proposals, including presenting these proposals to potential customers, negotiating terms work plan, and getting work funded
Experience or knowledge of Space programs and mission areas
Demonstrated ability to work across Sandia's or a similar FFRDC's program and organizational structures
A history of establishing and maintaining trusted partnerships
Demonstrated interest and success in recruiting, hiring, and developing/mentoring new personnel
Knowledge of Sandia’s technical base, organization and policies
Established network and partnerships within Sandia including the research organizations
Previous management experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Active DOE Q clearance with SCI clearance
About Our Team:
The Data Analysis & Algorithm Development Department architects, engineers, and develops advanced, one-of-a-kind data processing software and large-scale geographically distributed hardware and software systems for complex, real-time decision support systems using extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of mission and domain specific science and technology. The department also partners to advance the state of the art in data analytics and data fusion. We have extensive knowledge of signal and image processing, Geospatial registration, statistical inference and classification, multiple hypothesis tracking, data fusion and compressive sensing. This is a new department that will have staff moved from existing 6320 departments to allow focus and load leveling.
Decision Support Systems (6320) develops first-of-a-kind tasking, collection, processing, exploitation, and dissemination systems for national security missions. We design, develop, and deploy large networked computing systems that push the state-of-the-art in data processing throughput and real-time action and response. Our research, development, and engineering efforts are focused in areas such as advanced computing architectures, coordinated tasking and control, multi-mission scheduling optimization, supervised and unsupervised classification techniques, multi-spectral phenomenology and characterization, decision and information theory, and activity-based intelligence. We fundamentally develop and improve the way sensing systems customers make decisions.

Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
