Sandia National Laboratories Intern - Surety Mechanisms R&D Graduate Year-Round in Albuquerque, New Mexico

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a Year Round R&D Graduate Intern to join our dynamic team!

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Perform analytical and laboratory work within a research and development, science and engineering environment

  • Work in conjunction with Sandia staff on projects, using the scientific method to recognize and formulate problems, build test facilities, collect data through observation and experimentation, and formulate and test hypotheses

  • Support engineering work while applying an understanding of engineering and scientific principles

  • Assist in the creation and application of engineering methods used within scientific and engineering disciplines to develop or demonstrate new designs, concepts, materials, machines, products, processes, or systems

Qualifications We Require:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Earned bachelor's degree

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0

  • Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer

  • U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated ability to interact well with diverse teams

  • Genuine scientific curiosity

  • Demonstrated ability to develop new knowledge and learn new skills

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer, or between 10-30 hours per week during the school year

We are a mechanical engineering group responsible for the full life cycle of mechanism components for Nuclear Deterrence applications. Mechanisms for which we have design responsibility include unique signal strong links, environmental sensing devices, and weapon release detection switches. Surety Mechanism interns work collaboratively with experienced technical staff in a research and development environment rich in professional grade applications and facilities as well as the cutting-edge technology that is unique to Sandia National Laboratories.
