Sandia National Laboratories Intern - Stockpile Systems Engineering - R&D Graduate Summer in Albuquerque, New Mexico

What Your Job Will Be Like:

The New Mexico Stockpile Systems Team is seeking a Summer - R&D Graduate Intern to join our dynamic team and carry a passion for system-level integration and evaluation. Interns will carry out testing and model-based assessments of components and subassemblies. Internships will provide students with a strong foundation in system level-requirements, system relevant R&D, qualification, system sustainment evaluations and the use of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) tools to support these activities. Interns will also receive mentoring from an experienced systems engineer and supporting subject matter experts during the project.

On any given day, projects will involve two or more of the following:

  • Testing of components/sub-assemblies under relevant normal and abnormal environments

  • Assessing current reliability and safety of ND systems and/or subassemblies

  • Perform model-based assessment of components to relevant environments

  • Support flight test vehicle development and qualification activities

  • Develop new methods for the assessment and evaluation of aging materials and components

  • Developing new approaches in MBSE to evaluate system lifetime

Qualifications We Require:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Earned bachelor's degree

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0

  • Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer

  • U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience in drafting and design, program / project management discipline and tools, test and evaluation, product realization, knowledge in Systems Engineering

  • Have an earned B.S. in science or engineering

  • Enrolled in a Masters or Ph.D. program in engineering, materials science or related field

  • Work well within a professionally diverse team

  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance

The New Mexico Stockpile Systems Engineering Group, 07220, is a key element of Sandia National Laboratories’ mission is to support the Nation’s nuclear deterrence policy by ensuring that the nuclear weapon stockpile is known, with increasing certainty, to be safe and reliable. Security Clearance:
