A position exists for a software development intern to work as part of a small, high productivity team responsible for developing and maintaining web workflow applications, system software that interface with hardware and small applications used by organizations across the satellite enterprise.
You will be become intimately familiar with the software development life cycle including requirements gathering, development, testing, maintenance, and enhancement of software applications. Job duties can also include support of third party software. The position requires that you have excellent communication skills - the ability to have positive interactions with the team, system users and customer management is of the utmost importance. While the position requires rigor throughout the development lifecycle, opportunities exist for creative software development solutions.
On a given day, you may be called to:
Develop new programs, as well as enhancements, modifications, and corrections to existing software.
Interface with the customer – internal or external to Sandia – to elicit and define information system requirements.
Research, prototype, architect, and design solutions for effective operation of mission enabling or direct mission information systems by working with the customer and developing requirements that meets the needs.
Apply strategic thinking to deliver user-experience solutions with a focus on user needs and business goals, while identifying risks and risk-reduction strategies as part of balancing performance, cost, and schedule for various technical options.
Evaluate and select commercial-off-the-shelf or open source information systems domain options.
Participate in defining interfaces between software systems and hardware.
Apply standard software engineering practices in the development of the software solutions.
Document work and results.
Research and evaluate new software technologies.
Stay current with new technologies and industry trends and best practices
Qualifications We Require:
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
U.S. citizenship
Qualifications We Desire:
Experience with C#, C++, XML, XSLT, web services, JavaScript, CSS, XHTML, Ajax, MS SharePoint Designer, SSRS, as well as emerging technologies (e.g., mobile applications)
Knowledge or experience in MVC and/or MVP design patterns
Familiarity with software engineering life cycle methodologies such as RUP, ISO, and Agile
Experience supporting Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) applications
Experience with User Interface (UX) design and development
Ability to efficiently multi-task projects and roles within projects

Security Clearance:
