We are seeking a Year-Round Graduate Student Intern to work in a quantum information science lab setting and to work on our dynamic multi-disciplinary team!
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Work with a team to test cutting-edge quantum information ideas in a laboratory setting
Design optical systems able to perform delicate quantum experiments with maximum stability and flexibility
Perform research and development in quantum information and quantum sensing using ions trapped with micro-fabricated/chip-based devices

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
Earned bachelor's degree
Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
Bachelors degreein physics, chemistry or engineering or related field
Skills programming for experimental control software and data analysis
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Teamwork skills for working in a multi-disciplinary team environment
Meticulous attention to detail
A passion for quantum science and engineering
Experimental experience with lasers, vacuum chamber construction, or cryogenics
The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L security clearance
The Photonic Microsystems Technologies Department exploits science and technology at the nano and micro scales to enable advances in systems for national security. Our engagement is with a broad spectrum of technologies and a diverse field of customers with a successful record of maturing technology from concept to laboratory demo to prototype. The department consists of teams that lead the development and understanding of quantum effects associated with silicon electronic devices, atomic and molecular gases, and trapped electrons, atoms and ions. Most significantly, with a strong presence in the Microsystems Engineering Sciences and Applications (MESA) facility and the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) and working broadly with other Sandia and external organizations, we fabricate electronic structures and devices that use these effects to achieve new levels of performance at the integrated system level. Core technology areas in the department include nanofabrication of silicon devices; electromagnetic modeling; and ion trap and solid-state quantum information science and technology.
