What Your Job Will Be Like:

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Work with a team of classification subject matter experts, with a variety of technical backgrounds (e.g., mechanical, electrical, explosives, physics, chemistry, cyber, etc.).

  • Learn how to read and apply classification guidance.

  • Assist in creation of new/updated classification guidance.

  • Utilize technical skills to develop a training program for a classified technical program.

  • May include the use of 3D modeling skills in CREO or Solidworks to create additively manufactured parts for training purposes.

Qualifications We Require:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited related undergraduate program

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0

  • Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer

  • U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated ability to interact well with diverse teams

  • Demonstrated ability to develop new knowledge and learn new skills

  • Experience with 3D modeling software and additive manufacturing techniques

  • Ability to obtain a Q-Level security clearance

About Our Team:

The Classification Office at Sandia National Laboratories has the responsibility for implementing DOE's Classification and Unclassified Controlled Nuclear Information (UCNI) programs at Sandia/New Mexico. In addition, the department assists in the identification of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). The department performs classification reviews, assist Derivative Classifiers (DCs) and staff in making classification determinations, develops training and awareness briefings for members of the work force, designates and trains DCs and UCNI Reviewing Officials, and develops classification guidance in coordination with DOE, NNSA and laboratory programs as necessary. The department also supports DOE, NNSA and the Nuclear Weapon Complex in the implementation of the classification program, development of classification guidance and the resolution of classification issues.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
