What Your Job Will Be Like:

Organization 5340 is seeking candidates for Summer 2024 Undergraduate R&D intern positions in our world-class Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) programs. Our engineering teams work closely with student interns to provide hands-on experience across a wide range of research problems in imaging radar design, implementation, and analysis.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Help with hardware- and software-in-the-loop testing activities

  • Support flight testing teams in RF data collection exercises

  • Curate and prepare RF datasets for analysis

  • Write software applications to support basic RF data analysis

  • Helping prepare briefings and reports for internal and external stakeholder briefings

  • Evaluating state-of-the-art in machine learning applications for imagery analysis

  • Support implementation of customized human-machine interfaces

Qualifications We Require:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited undergraduate program

  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0

  • Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer

  • U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire:

Competitive candidates will have at least one of the following qualifications:

  • Coursework in electrical engineering, computer engineering, electronics engineering, software engineering, applied mathematics, computer vision, physics, or a related STEM field.

  • Coursework or experience using standard engineering applications, such as MATLAB, Simulink, CAD applications

  • Coursework in electrical engineering, software engineering, computer engineering, or a related STEM field

  • Coursework or experience with Python, C/C++, Java

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications

    In addition, candidates must be eligible to obtain a US security clearance.

The Airborne ISR Systems Group, 5340, designs, develops, and fields state-of-the-art radar imaging systems that address current and future national security needs. Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
