Sandia National Laboratories Human Resources - Compensation Analyst (Mid-Career) in Albuquerque, New Mexico

We are seeking a highly motivated and hardworking Compensation Analyst (Limited Term Employee) to join our dynamic team of compensation professionals! We implement and administer compensation policies, procedures, practices, and programs for Sandia National Laboratories.

You will provide guidance to management and human resources partners regarding compensation actions and issues. You will have strong analytical skills and excellent verbal and written communications skills.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Conduct surveys and studies labor markets to determine compensation trends and best practices.

  • Advise on appropriate salary placement for new hires and promotions.

  • Review and revise job descriptions.

  • Use job evaluation techniques to establish compensation rates that are equitable within the organization and comparable to market rates.

  • Analyze government regulations, Sandia National Laboratories policies, and agreements with labor unions when revising compensation practices.

  • Review proposed changes to compensation practices and makes recommendations with respect to tasks to be performed and Sandia policy and budgetary limitations.

  • Interpret local, state, and federal laws regulating compensation practices.

  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance, compare compensation to market benchmarks, track salary budgets, and analyze salary trends.

  • Provide compensation plan documentation, plan interpretation, and other communications.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline plus five (5) or more years of experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and direct experience.

  • Compensation experience related to compensation theories, principles, and practices.

  • Proficient experience with compensation data analysis.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE L-level security clearance.


  • Master’s Degree in relevant discipline.

  • Experience with market-based compensation systems.

  • World at Work Certified Compensation Professional.

  • Ability to think critically, focus on solutions, and work in teams or independently.

  • Sound judgment, strong work ethic, ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

    Department Description:

The Compensation Department provides comprehensive support to the SNL management team in the areas of employee pay programs and policies (both base and nonbase), performance recognition programs, and job evaluations. Department activities involve interactions with all areas, classifications and levels of the Laboratory. Compensation has a direct line of sight impact on Sandia's ability to achieve its goals and objectives as a key element of Sandia's total rewards concept

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
