NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range:

$65,300 - $146,200

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an R&D Systems Engineer/Ground System Site Engineer (GSSE). The selected candidate will be a crucial member of the United States Nuclear Detonation (NUDET) Detection System (USNDS) program that supports the United States Space Force in its nuclear detonation detection and monitoring missions. The USNDS system relies on space-based sensor payloads that transmit data to satellite ground systems for mission processing. The role requires a multi-faceted individual who has experience in software systems and hardware platforms. Join us to develop creative solutions to unique national security challenges!

On any given day you may be called on to:

  • Serve as the primary Sandia technical interface and primary point of contact to onsite military personnel responsible for the real-time operations of the USNDS missions

  • Manage onsite ground system support to include troubleshooting and resolving issues with mission hardware, software, networking, and ground antenna/receiver issues in a timely manner

  • Share 24/7 on-call support with other GSSEs, and reach back to domain experts at Sandia for abnormal issue resolution

This position will require relocation outside NM (Denver, CO).

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering or relevant or equivalent (AS+4 years' or no degree plus 8 years')

  • Experience determining system status, diagnose problems, and returning the system to operational capability

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q and TS/SCI clearances

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Possess a strong dedication to positive teaming dynamic strong written and verbal skills, detail oriented with a keen focus on customer service

  • Solid teaming and analytical skills

  • Experience troubleshooting and maintenance of computer systems

  • Experience with computer hardware, software, networks, and Linux operating system.

  • Familiarity with RF antenna and receiver systems.

  • Technical communication experience, especially experience working with a geographically distributed team

  • Understand the operational approach and have a real passion for service in the national interest

About Our Team:

USNDS Ground Lifecycle Engineering is responsible for the project management, systems engineering, and operations of the satellite ground systems that support the US capability to monitor the earth’s atmosphere and surrounding space for nuclear detonations. This department serves as one of the technical interfaces to the Air Force for projects within the United States Nuclear Detonation (NUDET) Detection System (USNDS) Ground Program, which include the Integrated Correlation and Display System (ICADS) and the Ground NDS Terminal (GNT). In addition, the team works closely with Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC) operators to support real-time missions, resolve and analyze anomalies, and define ground system requirements.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
