Sandia National Laboratories General Cyber Technologist (Early/Mid-Career) in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Organization 05627, Systems Security Research, is seeking an experienced, motivated, and hardworking technologist to join our energetic and multidisciplinary team supporting programs addressing national security challenges related to defense of non-traditional cyber systems, development of innovative cyber solutions, and identification of system vulnerabilities and threats. As part of our team, you will engage with scientists and engineers in work across a broad technology spectrum spanning cyber-physical, embedded, mobile, IoT, and large-scale, inter-connected networks. You will be responsible for hardware analysis, wireless test and evaluation, device introspection, assessments, computing, and laboratory infrastructure activities supporting a variety of functions:

  • Develop device hardware bill of materials through hardware disassembly, imaging, chip identification, and data/specification sheet interpretation

  • Utilizing laboratory test equipment

  • Catalog assessment and analysis data into project databases

  • Maintain and manage project databases

  • Set up, configure, maintain, and interact with wireless communication infrastructure

  • Support instrumentation and data acquisition, including setting up and configuring test platforms, within research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) environments

  • Assist with operation and maintenance of server, desktop, and embedded computing infrastructure

  • Maintain laboratory space, including coordination of lab activities, consistency to environment safety and health policies, design, and implementation of lab upgrades, etc.

  • Support procurement of devices, equipment, components, and software needed to support staff and RDT&E activities

  • Recommend improvements to increase technical efficiency and effectiveness within the group

  • Work with scientists and engineers to help establish task and project requirements, including test specifications and procedures

    Required:

  • An associate's degree in an electrical, electronics, electromechanical, or computer related field plus 8 years of experience; or a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of experience; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job

  • Strong hardware and electronics background

  • Experience handling critical electrical equipment

  • Experience using hardware test equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.

  • Ability to acquire and maintain both a DOE Q clearance and a SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph examination

    Desired:

  • Ability to interpret and understand electronic component specification sheets

  • Possess an exceedingly methodical and detail-oriented work disposition

  • Soldering/Desoldering components

  • Developing, configuring, and using hardware and RF test harnesses

  • Understanding requirements for wireless field testing, including high power testing

  • Building, designing, populating, and/or modifying printed circuit boards

  • Configuration, operation, and maintenance of wireless systems

  • Sandia security and ES&H policies, including wireless policies and how to navigate them to ensure compliance

  • OT/ICS/SCADA devices, systems, and protocols; including device configuration and integration of hardware-in-the-loop hardware supporting modeling and simulation

  • Designing and supporting test and evaluation experiments, including instrumentation and data collection

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to prioritize and execute in a disciplined and focused manner

  • Can multitask and meet deliverables on different activities

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to work well in a team environment

  • An active DOE Q-level security clearance; or other active security clearance such as DOD Top Secret or SCI

Sandia's cybersecurity specialists are key contributors in addressing the country's most pressing national security needs. The mission of the Information Operations Center is to assess, design, implement and influence the development of national security-related information systems and technologies in support of Defense and Intelligence customers and their national security missions. The Information Operations center consists of approximately 200 R&D technical staff working in most of the subdomains encompassed by the term "cybersecurity".

    Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
