Sandia National Laboratories Facilities Mechanical Engineer (Experienced) in Albuquerque, New Mexico

We are seeking a Facilities Mechanical Engineer

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Ensure the operation of building systems to the design record documents and oversee condition monitoring and analysis.
  • Provide engineering direction to the Work Control Center and Maintenance Team Leaders for questions regarding systems affected by projects, operations, and maintenance activities
  • Perform minor designs in support of customer requests with Facilities Portfolio Manager approval.
  • Support project requirements development, developing and analyzing design options and alternatives, A/E Q&A, and project design reviews focusing on operations and maintainability of equipment.
  • Consult with A/E partners on system capacities and design basis and maintain as-builts
  • Perform portfolio systems performance monitoring, system analysis, and operate per the design basis.
  • Write planned outage procedures and switching memos.
  • Review and approve all planned outage procedures and switching memos for assigned portfolio
  • Identify facility project needs through the Condition Assessment, Resource Conservation or Operations processes and assist in integrating those needs across the site.
  • Provide technical expertise and analysis in support of predictive maintenance technologies
  • O-M Strategy, Condition Assessments, Energy Audits, LEED, Guiding Principles and Retro Cx processes.
  • Project design reviews focusing on specification and standard reviews at the building system level.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline plus five or more years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline plus two or more years of relevant experience; or doctorate in relevant discipline with an emphasis in HVAC or mechanical utilities
  • Ability to obtain a PE license.

Desired:

  • Licensed Engineer (P.E.).
  • Experience working with Nuclear Facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience as a mechanical design engineer.
  • Experience with current mechanical codes and standards (IBC, ASHRAE).
  • Experience scoping detailed mechanical projects.
  • Experience trouble shooting mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated analytical and reasoning skills necessary to identify and resolve mechanical risk issues with the mission in mind and assist in making recommendations to management.
  • Demonstrated experience with the coordination of mechanical outages.
  • Demonstrated experience with developing and implementing a preventative maintenance plan.
  • Basic knowledge of technical building or site infrastructure design and construction.
  • Working knowledge and understanding in Facilities engineering, design, construction and contracting, best practices and standards.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple high rigor tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Able to initiate effective internal customer relationships.
  • Ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience using computerized facilities management systems such as Maximo, Tririga, or other similar software platforms.
  • Experience working for a Facilities management and maintenance organization.
  • Experience with NNSA, DOE or other federal government requirements.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple high rigor tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to articulate the vision to key stakeholders.
  • Able to conduct research, investigate alternative solutions, and recommend solutions on problems affecting electrical systems.
  • Analytical and reasoning skills necessary to identify and resolve electrical risk issues with the mission in mind and assist in making recommendations to management.
  • Ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.
  • Basic knowledge of technical building or site infrastructure design and construction.
  • Experience working with industrial and/or commercial Building Control Systems/Facility Control Systems and associated instrumentation like Siemens or other like systems.
  • Proficiency or training in Trane Trace system analysis software.
  • Experience with performing system modeling, including fluid flow, acoustic analysis, psychometric analysis, and energy conservation analysis.
  • Experience with NNSA, DOE or other federal government requirements.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or LEED Accredited Professional certification.

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted L-level security clearance.
