What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an Engineering Support Technologist. This job posting is for a Neutron Generator (NG) Production Process Technologist (as a General Technologist). You will be responsible for coordinating the quality of assigned processes and be the primary technical interface to the production operators.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Work closely with the NG process engineers to ensure a technical understanding of the processes and expected results, recognizing product requirement deviations, troubleshooting and determining an effective solution.

  • Encouraged to monitor process health and identify ways to increase yields, decrease variability, decrease span time and mistake proof.

  • Recommend corrective or preventive actions to assure or improve product quality and may be responsible for their implementation.

  • Have responsibility for maintaining written work instructions and ensure operators are accurately trained in their execution.

  • You may be involved with new process/equipment development and qualification, maintain programs associated with automated production equipment, implementing new manufacturing technologies or equipment on the production floor.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Associate’s degree in Applied Science or a closely related technical field; or equivalent combination of related education and relevant experience.

  • Active DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience working in a production environment.

  • Experience training others on hands on processes.

  • Experience with product realization processes and process development.

  • Experience in providing technical support to manufacturing or development operations.

  • Systems oriented person able to maintain production activities and identify/overs associated risks.

  • Ability to conduct analyses as needed to optimize the manufacturing processes to balance quality, responsiveness and pre-defined metrics.

  • Proven capability to learn the technical aspects of manufacturing processes in order to apply integrated technical judgment as required to anticipate, innovate, and deliver solutions.

  • Demonstrated capability to monitor process health by identifying effective metrics, collecting, and analyzing data, and presenting results.

  • Proven capability to successfully multi-task across multiple projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

  • Willingness to actively participate in Lean Six Sigma program.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a team environment that includes operators, technical staff, team leaders, and other technologists.

  • A dedication to a culture of safety and security.

  • Basic knowledge of design for manufacturing.

About Our Team:

The Ferro-Electric Neutron Generator (FENG) and Electronic Neutron Generator (ELNG) Value Stream Department develops, qualifies, and integrates pioneering technologies to realize a broad range of components and related assemblies used in the design, development, and production of neutron generators for the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE). We deploy technical leadership in various engineering teams (e.g., mechanical, materials science, industrial, chemical and electrical) to identify, develop and mature technology solutions using demonstrated meticulous product and process realization methodologies. Our capabilities range from component assembly and fabrication, abrasive blasting/cleaning, inspection, laser welding and marking, soldering, encapsulation, final dimensioning and machining, x-ray radiography, thermal spraying, conformal coating, environmental conditioning and functional testing.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
