NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and dedicated individual for an R&D Engineering Support Technologist position with the W76-1/W76-2 System team. This position will play a critical role on the build team for several development efforts for the system team.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Work with minimal supervision on a variety of engineering and laboratory activities while accommodating changing priorities.

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and subject matter experts to execute test body builds and support testing.

  • Work independently or with other technologists to support engineering staff with:

  • Hands-on system assembly, disassembly, and testing.

  • Help define and revise procedures for test body build, reconfiguration, and disassembly.

  • Provide input to engineering documentation, reports, and drawings.

  • Have an active role in maintaining a stellar history of safety while continuously seeking operational laboratory safety and security improvements through:

  • Managing PHS and other safety documentation for organization.

  • Managing receipt of material (i.e., explosives, hardware, equipment, classified matter, etc.).

  • Managing calibration of equipment.

  • Rigorous implementation and documentation of work planning, and control processes is expected to assure safe, secure, and high-quality operations.

    Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM. Some travel may be required for this position.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Five ( 5) years of relevant experience in a technology or engineering discipline.

  • Active DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Associate’s degree in engineering or relevant STEM field .

  • Familiarity with corporate ES&H, as well as security processes, procedures, and the translation of these down to technical work documents.

  • Experience with test unit assembly, instrumentation, and special tooling.

  • Experience with facility/laboratory operations, to include defining safety basis, operation of equipment (cranes, forklift, lasers, and pressure), and proper control of hazardous materials (chemical, explosive, and radioactive).

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a neat and organized work area.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Nuclear Weapon Systems.

  • Self-motivated, positive individual comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and management.

  • Very good written and oral communication skills.

About Our Team:

Department 7226 is strongly integrated with the W76-1 and W76-2 Systems Department 7222 as it relates to ongoing development work. Collaborative activities related to development and qualification of the JTA3, Mk4B, and ALT 939 ISA development programs are managed by Department 7226. Department 7226 leads technical basis activities including planning and execution of qualification activities including subsystem and full system testing, modeling & simulation. In addition, this department manages and leads the development of testers and operational activities for hardware management and engineering leadership for all test body assembly & disassembly activities. Additionally, this department will be the primary interface with test and computational simulation organizations to manage schedule and budget associated with qualification.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
