NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Maintenance and Operations team as the Electrical and Fire Protection Maintenance Manager! We are a mission partner and the provider of choice for infrastructure services across all Laboratory sites. You will manage a maintenance staff of approximately 70 employees, mostly bargaining unit/union skilled trades. This is structured into six team leads directly reporting to you that oversee six maintenance and operations groups including: High Voltage Electrical, Low Voltage Electrical, Fire Alarm, Fire Suppression and Sprinklers, Breaker Testing and Low Voltage & Lighting.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Track and maintain maintenance and department budgets.

  • Ensure infrastructure, building electrical, and fire protection systems are operated and maintained in a safe and reliable manner.

  • Track metrics surrounding the execution of maintenance work.

  • Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.

  • Resolve complex problems and meet schedules in daily operations.

  • Be accountable for all department, ES&H, and Security activities.

  • Ensure process compliance and improvement.

  • Collaborate with union stewards as needed to address bargaining unit/union skilled trade concerns.

  • Evaluate Team Leaders and staff, provide direction, support, and opportunities for growth.

  • Support hiring, training, and professional development of staff.

  • Exercise judgement within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action and provide solutions.

  • Lead monthly department meetings advocating safety and security.

  • Contribute engineering analyses to planning and response efforts for system outages; work with team leads to solve routine field problems; review outage reports daily for accuracy and develop solutions to mitigate similar future outages.

  • Assist engineering support staff by completing activities to maintain facilities systems which includes providing information and analysis for maintenance work.

  • Deliver excellent customer service while ensuring quality, maximizing safety, and maintaining a clean and environmentally friendly campus.

    Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 100% of the time.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or other relevant field plus 8 years’ experience in electrical maintenance, electrical operations, or other relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience (Associate's in above field plus 12 years' experience, no degree plus 16 years' experience).

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, with emphasis in power systems

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in Power Distribution Systems

  • Experience with High Voltage systems (>600V) maintenance and electrical outage planning.

  • Experience at Utility or Power Generation Plants

  • Working knowledge in design, maintenance, and operations of electrical apparatuses found in sub-transmission systems, substations, switching stations, and complex commercial/industrial power distribution systems.

  • Experience working with bargaining unit/union personnel.

  • Advanced knowledge and application of engineering processes and procedures.

  • Advanced knowledge of engineering and economic principles and concepts.

  • Advanced knowledge and experience with electrical codes and standards.

  • Advanced use of Microsoft Office Products and presentation skills

About Our Team:

Electrical Maintenance provides electrical and utility preventive, predictive, corrective maintenance, and fire suppression services for the Sandia/NM site. The department is responsible for maintenance in the areas of high voltage, fire alarm detection and reporting systems, street lighting, power metering, low voltage building preventative maintenance, breaker maintenance and testing, emergency lighting/inverters, intrusion alarm system support, electrically operated roll-up doors, gates, and standup generators.

Security Clearance:
