What Your Job Will Be Like:

Do you enjoy working in a dynamic environment on programs of critical national security importance? The Measurement & Science Engineering Department in the Validation and Qualification Sciences Experimental Group is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Engineering and Operations (E&O) General Technologist to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in assessing and optimizing our operational processes and workflows, enhancing efficiency, and supporting our technical initiatives. Your contribution to departmental efforts will include ensuring compliance with applicable safety and security standards and through operations, help technical staff realize their ideas and accomplish their project goals.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Work at the direction of the team’s E&O Test Operations Engineer on a specific task basis to support technical activities and continuous growth in our operations.

  • Prepare or support the creation and completion of documentation for test operations to include work planning and controls and other project execution documents.

  • Support data management for classified and unclassified test data.

  • Support field testing through mock-ups of test setups in a lab and closeout maintenance procedures.

  • Review and help prepare safety basis documentation.

  • Lead cyber security documentation and manage standalone classified plans.

  • Support weekly schedule reviews and identification of resource pinch-points.

  • Implement organizational ideas to continually help streamline and improve our lab spaces and operations.

  • Maintain test critical infrastructure, consumables, facilities, and assets.

  • Standardize and oversee Project management WP&C documentation and progress through closeout.

  • Work in an outdoor field environment supporting hazardous test operations.

  • Travel occasionally to support test operations, up to 25% of the time.

Salary Range:

$52,600 - $99,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • High school graduate or equivalent

  • Experience with one or more of the following: electronics, networking equipment, audio/visual equipment, or database management

  • Able to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance as well as collaboratively as part of a team and the ability to do so efficiently

  • Experience with Microsoft Office or similar programs

  • Ability to collaborate with customers and staff to ensure high quality deliverables

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Experience with file management and databases

  • Demonstrated organizational skills with strong attention to detail

  • Experience with set-up and execution of optical diagnostics various sized experiments

  • Experience with video editing and creation of test summary videos and other high impact deliverables

  • Experience with management of equipment maintenance and resolution of identified issues

The Validation and Qualification Sciences Group is responsible for large-scale experimental The Measurement Science & Engineering department (1535) AKA “The Photometrics Team” is a multi-disciplinary group that provides cutting edge imaging measurements for large and small-scale test work supporting Sandia’s National Security Mission. Our work includes R&D developing innovative quantitative imaging measurements that work in harsh conditions, field deployment of measurement systems, data collection, and data analysis. We collaborate with many national laboratories and facilities, providing our customers with critical data and information for model validation, hardware qualification, and engineering development.
