NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as our Director of Employee Health Services. You will join a dynamic and diverse team of Health Care Professionals and report to the Executive Director and Chief Human Resources Officer. You will guide the health care organization and ensure that it maintains the competencies and capabilities that are required to meet Sandia’s mission. This includes leading the department’s staff and contractors and managing facilities and capabilities to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and Sandia’s policies and procedures. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, directing and managing medical services, including occupational medical, behavioral health, health care management, preventative health, personal healthcare and emergency/pandemic operations.
On any given day, you may be required to:
Lead employees in multiple functions.
Participate in the development of overall objectives and long-term goals of the organization. Decisions affect virtually all areas of Sandia National Laboratories and profoundly affect the success of the organization.
Support a culture of leadership, mentor the management team on future division and Sandia needs, and work with peers to develop, model, and mentor others.
Develop and implement strategic and operational policies and participate in strategy development for Sandia activities of major significance to the organization and institution.
Ensure that budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set and attained, and Sandia and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) requirements are effectively met.
Interact regularly with senior management and executives. Interactions frequently involve special skills, such as negotiating with customers or management regarding matters of significance to the organization.
Successfully integrate activities with those of other organizations and influence senior leaders.
Represent the center and serve as primary (internal and external) contact on contracts and operations.
Conduct briefings and meetings for executive management.
Interpret, recommend, and implement policies and procedures for all components of occupational medicine, including medical surveillance and certification, workers' compensation, health promotion, emergency response, employee assistance, and medical epidemiology.
Review and incorporate health and medical surveillance standards promulgated by federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Qualifications We Require:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Medicine or related field, plus twelve (12) or more years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Eight (8) or more years of managerial experience.
Ability to acquire and maintain an active DOE L-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire:
Experience leading teams and working in a fast-paced, multiple-functional healthcare environment, involving oversight for occupational health services, employee health and wellness programs, emergency medical services, clinical services, and medical records management.
Highly effective interpersonal and influence skills required to develop and maintain medical staff, administrative, and contractor relationships.
Progressive management experience in health services operations.
Expert leadership and management skills and the ability to champion innovative directions and influence the development of institutional goals and objectives.
Extensive experience directing managers to lead and achieve organization objectives and goals and meet Sandia and DOE requirements.
Extensive experience leading successful process improvement, quality control, and compliance assurance efforts in a healthcare services environment.
Extensive experience partnering and negotiating on matters of significance to the organization.

Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
