We are seeking two DevOps Software Systems Engineers (Limited Term Employees) to support mission critical product lifecycle and data management applications. The individual(s) will join a fast-paced, dynamic, agile team environment focused on the automated building, testing, and deployment of software services and infrastructure. The ideal candidate is well rounded, having experience with modern development methods, tools, and the underlying infrastructure. We are looking for a self-motivated, driven, problem solver to join our team.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Manage and develop tools that support and enhance all aspects of the software delivery lifecycle.

  • Troubleshoot application and infrastructure issues.

  • Collaboratively engage with architects, developers, operations, customers, and end users to collect requirements, design solutions, and deliver high quality software services.

  • Drive improvements in process and quality methodologies in software engineering, application reliability, and production operations.


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a relevant field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Experience in software engineering and the design and development of applications.

  • Proficiency with Python application development and Bash scripting.

  • Ability to acquire and maintain a required DOE Q security clearance.


  • Strong verbal and written customer service and communications skills.

  • Experience with Data & Application Security and the creation and management of SSH and SSL keys and certificates.

  • Understanding of ITIL and IT Service management standard methodologies.

  • Problem solver with strong critical thinking, analytical and troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience using iterative or agile methods across the full software development process.

  • Experience with Continuous Integration practices, pipeline creation, and CI tools such as GitHub Actions, Gitlab Runners, or Jenkins.

  • Experience building containers and deploying onto container platforms, using technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Experience with automated unit testing, TDD, BDD, and their associated technologies (e.g. Junit/pytest, cucumber, Selenium).

  • Skilled in using Git for software configuration management in a distributed pull-request based workflow.

  • Linux System Administration experience and are capable of OS installation, storage and network configuration, and package management.

  • Have leveraged configuration management systems such as Ansible or Puppet to configure compute resources or have configured cloud resources with tools like Terraform.

  • Familiarity with Static Analysis Security Testing and integrating code scanning into pipelines.

Science & Engineering Computing-Environment Services Department, Org 9321, provides advanced capabilities and in-depth support for a broad range of scientific and engineering computing services which include: high performance computing, remote graphics workstations, high performance storage, scientific and engineering applications, web development, software engineering, and continuous integration (compilation and test) environments. The department designs, develops, manages, and provides cutting edge software and tools across multiple platforms used to create complex mission unique capabilities. The department develops and implements new and emergent technologies and capabilities in support of mission and programmatic needs. We partner with other organizations and teams across the Laboratories to deliver user environments, subject matter expert support, and application-level software and tools to support the scientific and engineering communities.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
