What Your Job Will Be Like:

Department 9774 has an opening for an Information Systems Architect – Enterprise Network Services Team member. The selected candidate will serve as an architect for network systems solutions, requiring knowledge of and experience with information systems domains such as information assurance, hardware, software, networking, and systems security. This position will support Enterprise network capabilities and services for all of Sandia’s corporately supported unclassified and classified networks.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Work on projects and help develop roadmaps for the Enterprise Network Services Team.

  • Interface with customers, vendors, and IT partners within our department and across Sandia.

  • Establish service level agreements and requirements for performance, reliability, and security for Network Systems.

  • Provide network administration support for systems that host critical applications and services.

  • Support full lifecycle management (analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, integration, and maintenance) for Enterprise network services.

    The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range:

$95,400 - $185,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field plus 5 years of experience, or equivalent (AS + 9 years or no degree + 13 years)

  • Experience with firewalls, routers, and switches

  • Experience working on large programs, projects, services, and/or teams

  • Active DOE Q clearance, or equivalent is required to start

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience with network hardware from vendors such as Cisco, HP, Brocade, Arista, Juniper

  • Experience working in a large, distributed environment providing network services at large scale

  • Proficiency in network monitoring and packet analysis tools such as Splunk, tcpdump, and Wireshark

  • Experience with installing and troubleshooting fiber optic, ethernet cabling, and 802.11 wireless networks

  • Experience with network incident ticket resolution, service restoration, and troubleshooting in Service Now

  • Ability to mentor and train team members

  • Strong willingness to learn and explore information systems

  • Excellent customer service and technical support skills

  • Strong project management and organizational skills

  • Experience with network topology and baseline documentation

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills

  • Industry relevant certifications such as Cisco CCNA, Cisco CCNP, CompTIA Network+, etc.

About Our Team:

Department 9774, Data Center Operations, is responsible for managing the daily activities of critical IT services. This includes working in collaboration with the SNL Facilities team in several 24×7 data center environments to ensure all critical systems are operational supporting the mission of the IT infrastructure for Sandia National Laboratories on both the unclassified and classified levels.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
