The Air, Missile, and Space Defense Group within the Integrated Military Systems Center is seeking a skilled and experienced Engineer to serve as a Portfolio Liaison and Technical Analyst for our collaboration with the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) at Redstone Arsenal, AL. In this critical role, you will act as an onsite customer interface between Sandia and the MDA, engaging with various divisions within the organization, including the Director of Engineering (DE), Ground-Based Weapons Systems (GW), Advanced Capability (AC), and the Test Directorate (DT), including Targets and Countermeasures (TC).

In this role, you will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of exciting tasks, including:

  • Customer Engagement: Serve as the primary onsite liaison between Sandia and the MDA, facilitating communication and collaboration across various technical divisions to ensure alignment on project goals and objectives. These technical defense applications include, the Ground-based Midcourse Defense Technical Direction Agent and may include the areas of development and assessment of defensive weapon systems, target vehicles, high-rate finite element and shock physics, countermeasure development, and sensor technologies (RF and EO/IR).

  • Gather Insights: Distill information on customer needs, identifying technical and programmatic gaps, and convey valuable insights back to teams in Albuquerque.

  • Collaborate Effectively: Work closely with management and technical staff to identify opportunities for developing innovative technical solutions that address customer needs.

  • Technical Analysis: Conduct thorough technical assessments and analyses to support the development and integration of missile defense systems, ensuring that solutions meet operational requirements and mission needs.

  • Interface with MDA: Address inquiries regarding deliverables, monitor the progress of new and ongoing projects, and ensure the timely delivery of products to meet customer requirements.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare technical documentation and reports detailing system designs, test results, and performance evaluations for stakeholders.

  • Travel as Needed: Occasional travel may be required to meet project needs. This position is eligible for telecommuting, but the selected applicant must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to Redstone Arsenal, AL.

Salary Range:

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant STEM field (e.g., Engineering, Physics, Mathematics) plus 5 years of experience in a technical/systems engineering position.

  • Direct experience with the Missile Defense Agency or similar defense organizations.

  • Proven experience as a team/project lead, demonstrating strong leadership and collaboration skills.

  • Active DOE L security clearance or equivalent (DOD Secret).

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.

  • Advanced degree in a relevant STEM field.

  • Experience with missile defense systems, including knowledge of rocket assembly, launch operations, and hypersonic technologies.

  • Familiarity with shock physics and sensor technologies.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data sets.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.

  • Active DOE Q security clearance or equivalent DOD TS/ SCI

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) L security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
